Project direction
The companion app is being scoped around one focused local workflow rather than a collection of unrelated utilities.
The goal is to demonstrate native desktop development, predictable performance, safe data handling, and an interface that makes technical operations easy to understand.
Why Rust
Rust is valuable here because it encourages explicit ownership, memory safety, and reliable concurrency.
Those strengths make it a useful language for a local utility that may eventually manage files, background tasks, persistent state, or integrations without hiding failure states from the user.
What will make it portfolio-ready
The first public release needs a narrow problem statement, a complete working loop, and evidence that the application handles failure gracefully.
Once that core workflow is stable, the case study will document architecture, tradeoffs, packaging, testing, and measurable behavior.
Honest project status
The concept, technology direction, and quality bar are established; the final feature set is not.
Keeping that distinction visible is more useful to employers than presenting an aspirational feature list as finished work.
